Day 9 - Hiking around Flagstaff

Saturday - September 14, 2019

We slept in to almost 5:00 AM! After our morning coffee and a light breakfast, Kay started work on our laundry which had accumulated during the past week. By 9:30 laundry was complete and we decided to hike a local trail. Less than a mile from our location is the Campbell Mesa Trail complex. We chose the Campbell Mesa Trail Loop located in the Walnut Canyon National Monument.

Knowing that this was not a really "scenic" hike, I left my camera and pack at the condo. I stuck a couple of bottles of water and a couple granola bars in my pocket and off we went. This trail is 5.2 miles in length and meanders through sparse pines, rocky outcrops and lots of wildflowers with minimum elevation changes. We saw a few other hikers and a few more bicyclists, but for the most part it was a beautiful and quiet hike. We completed the hike in just over two hours.

l did take a few photos with my phone which I will share with you.

We saw a lot of lightning struck trees.

Like I said, not a lot of scenery, but it was really a nice hike.

We spent the rest of Saturday enjoying our last day of relative luxury in the 2BR condo resting and watching old Westerns on TV. Leaving tomorrow for about 5 1/2 hours of driving with a few hours spent on the North Rim before heading to Kanab.
